Ed Hodas of Bel Monte Kennels helped establish the Cane Corso here in the United States back in the early 1990s. Modern Molosser Magazine has an awesome article on some of the Cane Corso history here in the United States. Ed Hodas is sometimes referred to as the "godfather" of the American Cane Corso. Ed mentions several of the foundational dogs like Ch Cocomo, Ch Rocco, and Grand Ch. Bel Monte Nero, three of the dogs genetically close in our next breeding here at Marino Cane Corso. I thought I'd share this with everyone, as it's a nice little look into the history of the Cane Corso breed here in this country.
“Out comes the most magnificent specimen of a dog we have ever seen, winning the tournament hands down,” remembers Ed, who knew Mike Sottile for more than a dozen years before the latter began importing the Cane Corso. As it happened, there was a litter of Cocomo-sired puppies on the ground, and Ed and his wife Kristie immediately acquired a son, soon to be Ch. Rocco. https://www.modernmolosser
I love Ed's description of driving around Italy looking for dogs.
